Multiple Honors: NEIWPCC is proud to announce that three of our staff members, including Executive Director Ronald Poltak, will receive awards at the New England Water Environment Association’s annual conference in January. Get the details on the awards and the recipients.

Welcome Decision: NEIWPCC Executive Director Ron Poltak on EPA’s new rule on mercury emissions from power plants: “It has been a long, arduous battle to get to this place, and finally, New England may see some relief. The recently announced mercury and air standards are strong, sensible safeguards that will protect our citizens from toxic mercury and other dangerous heavy metals. EPA is to be congratulated, and I am so pleased by their efforts to uphold scientific integrity and protect public health.” For details on the standards, see EPA’s MACT page.

Request for Applications: The New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program, in partnership with NEIWPCC, is seeking a contractor to assist with a project assessing the effects of sea level rise on public access points in the New York-New Jersey Harbor Estuary. Applications will be accepted until January 9, 2012. Visit our Contractor Opportunities page for more information.

Request for Proposals: NEIWPCC is seeking applicants to develop a framework for coordinated water quality monitoring within the embayments of Long Island Sound.  Please visit the Long Island Sound Study CCMP Enhancement Program page to download the Request for Proposals.  Proposals are due by February 3, 2012.

NEIWPCC in the NEWS: In an interview in Treatment Plant Operator magazine, NEIWPCC’s Leeann Hanson shares her thoughts on the great success and the challenges she’s experienced as coordinator of JETCC, our training arm in Maine.

Deadline extended! The deadline for applications to the Massachusetts Wastewater Management Training Program has been extended. Applications will be accepted through the end of the year for this program. Classes are expected to begin in February 2012.
